last sunday while channel surfing i stumbled upon 'Roy Orbison & Friends: Black and White'.
simply amazing.
first of all, roy orbison is ill. if this show was just roy on stage singing his songs i would have been more than content. however, roy's friends happen to be elvis costello, tom waits, bruce springsteen, bonnie raitt (who was fine btw) and k.d lang.
also, the production value on this show is noticeably high. it was filmed in 1987 (a year before roy's death) but aside from their eyewear, it looks like they made it in 2002.
i've posted my favorite performance of the set, 'sweet dreams baby'. really makes me smile. i mean, just look at the three 'backup' singers doin their thang. and the editing is so so smooth (for example, the cut to elvis at 2:31).
