Savage fight tonight. One-step closer to Pacqiao-Mayweather. That fight would easily be the fight of the decade and possibly the greatest welterweight matchup in history. Speed vs. Speed. Mayweather's trainer, uncle, Roger Mayweather has been dismissive of kuya Manny but it's hard to dismiss a second round knockout against a veteran like Hatton who seemed renewed after two convincing wins following what was then his lone loss against an undefeated Floyd "Money" Mayweather. You can argue that Pacquiao's been cleaning up Mayweather's sloppy seconds, but you can also argue that in both cases, Pacquiao's victories were more convincing. Either way, I cannot effing wait for 24-7 Mayweather-Pacquiao even though each of them has had like three apeice and even though it makes me sad to watch Freddie Roach get sick.

You have to run faster if you don't want to get bit.

Tiger Tiger Woods Y'all!
It only took him two competitions to shake off the rust, but baby he's now playing like a well oiled machine.
Entering the final day of his third tourney back from surgery and a baby girl, Tiger found himself five strokes back from the leader. 18 holes later, Tiger was the winner. Rahwww!

This Sunday
This Sunday Lebron will battle Steve Kroft one-on-one on the only constants in my life, 60 Minutes.
To help garner some extra press so the show can continue the ride the ratings wave they've been on since August/September of last year, CBS has released a lil clip of Bron Bron playing Krofty like a 3 foot 7inch third grader.

I Am an A-Rod Fan

People need to stop bashing the dude, he is what he is.
Issue 1: He did steroids and he probably did them for a lot longer than the three years he claims.
Answer: Who the eff cares?! Have you seen an Arod homerun? Those things aren't barley getting over the fence, they are literal "A-Bombs from A-Rod." The dude averages 460 foot homers. The deepest part of a park, center field, is 408ft. Come'on. And the last time I checked the hardest part about hitting a baseball was making contact, and steroids can't help you with that. Actually there is more evidence that steroids can hurt your ability to get the bat head around fast enough to catch up to a 96mph fastball. If i wanted someone to teach me how to hit i would go to Barry Bonds. Sure steroids helped him turn some routine flyballs into homeruns, but damn that guy had one consistent deadly swing.
Issue 2: A-Rod is what wrong with baseball.
Answer: Who the hell are you? Have you ever watched a game of baseball. A Yankee - Red Sox game last 4 effing hours! thats whats wrong. Seriously though, baseball was on it's last leggs until McGwire and Sosa started tee'n off pitchers. Everyone was watching baseball then and we all knew that those guys vein's were pumping steroids faster than the Alaskan pipeline could pump oil. But wait! All of a sudden our morals woke up after a 1-1 game in the 7th inning and said, "steroids are bad for the game." Fair enough, you can change your mind, but don't forget that we breeded this thing.
Issue 3: A-Rod has no p.r. skills.
Answer: "Show me a hero and I'll write you a tragedy" - F. Scott Fitzgerald. Welcome to A-Rods world. Keep in mind we are talking about a guy who was a star athlete before he entered high school. This dude very likely skated through high school all while winning state championships in every sport possible. The dude had a full ride to quaterback for U of Miami back when U of Miami was still good. To add to that, rumor has it A-Rod was good enough to make the NBA out of high school, but he had to focus on only two sports so he dropped b-ball.
After high school he backed out of his deal with Miami after he was selected #1 overall in the baseball draft. You know what that means? No college. Say goodbye to thatspecial public realtions/speaking class that is tailored to college athletes and that they are all required to take.
Face it, no one has told this guy no in his life (except strippers ofcourse.) He gets what he wants and thats just how it is. His mom couldn't say no to him, he was the only man in the house and a future cash cow. He wife couldn't say no when he would find some piece of arse. How the hell is some dweeb from U of Michigan going to tell an uneducated A-Rod what to say and do?
Issue 4: He is no Jeter.
Answer: No one is. I just don't get people sometimes. Some guys have charisma, some don't. D.J. has starlets clawing for him and A-Rod pays for his or settles for 50 year old woman with crazy forearms. I don't care. I love baseball and I love the Yankees, but don't ever try to tell me Derek Jeter is a better player than Alex Rodriguez. You come to me with that ish and i will slap it back into your mouth. Yes Jeter does somethings better than A-Rod, but A-Rod didn't lie when he told GQ that Jeter will never be a #1 on any team. 50 years from now kids and historians a like will look at the numbers and it will be clearer than one of those windows in a windex commercials, A-Rod was the better player. Ever wonder why he makes more money? Bingo.
Conclusion: The media is always looking for someone to beat up and A-Rod is that guy. Ex. - media got on his case for saying how he wished Jose Reyes played for the Yanks. Oh no! that was a jab a Jeter. Well where was the media when Jeter said that he wished he played with David
Wright because he plays the game the right way? Eff the media. Yea he ain't perfect, and sure he lied to Katie Couric, but she has that face you just want to lie to.
A-Rod is just a guy who makes more money an at bat than the reporters who interview him after a game make in a year. If the Yanks win it all this year it will be inspite of him. If they don't, it will be all A-Rods fault. It is what it is.
Really, A-Rod?!?!?!
With that being said, few things enrage me as much as A-Rod. The dude has no media saavy when it comes to realizing how things will be perceived by the media and the public. It just reveals how out of touch and insecure he is. Case in point, his most recent interview with Details magazine, which I find to be both odd and ironic due to the fact that it is well known that the magazine's audience is mostly homosexual.
More disturbing than the actual contents of the interview, which appallingly took place the day after Selena Roberts confronted him about his steroid use and one day BEFORE the story actually went public, and includes him talking heavily about Madonna, are the PICTURES.
Words cannot describe how much they make me cringe and how much I want to punch him in the face. You would NEVER see Derek Jeter do a spread like this?!?! What self-respecting man would think that these pictures would be okay? That this would endear him to his fans and win some appreciation from his haters and critics? I honestly don't know how many fans this guy has left because of his complete lack of likability. Who is willing to stand up for him? Good god, it infuriates me. Imagine seeing Lebron James, Tiger Woods, or a handful of other athletes doing this? It's unbelievable how he just continually gives more ammo to his haters.
I could go on and on, but I'll stop...As a New Yorker and a Yankee fan, I don't know how much longer I can put up with him and his BS...oh wait, 9 years...
Alex Rodriguez: Confessions of a Damned Yankee [Details]
Also, peep NY Mag Daily Intel's take on this subject. As the author of the post points out, maybe instead of hiring another agent, publicist, or PR team, he should hire a Red Sox fan from Southie to advise him on what NOT to do, for f*cks sake.

Well since everyone else is posting...
Fires continue to rage in Australia and arsonist are not making it any easier.

Temperatures have been blazing (pun really wasn't intended), hitting 119F in some areas. Add that to the 100 foot walls of fire that have killed over 130 people and destroyed nearly 1000 homes, it all adds up to Hell On Earth. What is making problems worse is that after the firefighters put out a fire and move on to another, suspected arsonist are relighting areas because they are arsonist and that's the stupid shite they do.

Speaking of hell on earth, Alex Rodriguez must feel like he's permanently stuck there. Not only is "frosty tips" disliked by his peers and baseball fans in general, but it appears that he is also hated by his own government (the same govt he gives $12million to every year in taxes). Someone from the Feds leaked the "confidential" results of a 2003 drug test he took. Uh Oh! All MLB players took the drug test in '03, 104 were found to have steroids in their system, Arod being one of them. Only Arods name was leaked.
Bad weekend all around.
At least Chris Brown is hitting the ground running as he plans to enter the studio on Monday to record a remake of Prodigy's "Smack My B*tch Up." Chris, I do believe it's too soon.

what i wiki'd...
9:30 PM:
began to write this post:
kobe bryant done gone down to msg and did it again. hours after receiving the news that andrew bynum- who has been playing like a dude who deserves a nickname, but whose name and persona do not really lend themselves to a nickname- might be out for the remainder of the regular season, jellybean's oldest son dropped 61 on the new look knicks. mvp chants abound.
which prompted me to wiki kobe bryant's career acheivements. i then wiki'd mj on a whim, who had a link to nba players who've scored 60 or more points in a game. note to wikipedia, what does kobe have to do to get that link on his page? after perusing that list i wrote this:
this puts him at five 60+ point games on his career. that puts him in a tie with mj for second in history, only twenty-seven behind wilt chamberlain who had 32. that's 32 sixty point games.
which begs the obvious question...most impressive stat? 100 point game? 32 with 60+ points? or 20,000 banged out groupies?

Sugar

Fewer things in life make me happier than baseball and a good movie. Actually only one thing and that's a great woman.
Anyway, Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden are trying to make me happy again. In 2006 they made the best movie of the past five years, Half Nelson. If you haven't seen it I will pay you to see it, and if you like it just give me the money back. I can confidently say that I will not lose money.
For 2009 they made a movie titled Sugar. It's about a kid from the Republica Dominica that was bestowed with a killer curveball. He would love a better life for himself and his family, and realizes that baseball is his ticket up to the east side. The movie focuses on his adventure to the minor leagues and the struggles that follow as he adapts to America and the expectations that are put on him.
Not only does the trailer look good, but the movie revolves around baseball. I am happy.

Super Bowl Highlights
This year instead, we get blessed with the freaking Arizona Cardinals (with Kurt Warner's bitch ass) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers. Call me crazy, but I'm pretty sure that's not the matchup the suits in the NFL wanted come the first weekend in February. Nonetheless, the Super Bowl is as American as apple pie and I plan to be heavily sedated due to a healthy overdose of fatty foods and carb-loaded beers.
To kick off the festivities, check out the link below to NY Mag's 25 Years of Super Bowl highlights. It's worth a 10 minute break from work while you eat your recession-ready lunch consisting of a baloney and white bread sandwich and your RC Cola.

It's About Effing Time

Tennis has always been a great sport. It's fun to play and fun to watch, but it always felt like it was missing something: unruly fans.
Yesterday, or technically today, Novak Djokovic, a Serbian (whom I dislike a lot but not because he's a Serb, but because he's an ass), played Amer Delic, a Bosian born American, at the Australian Open. Bosnians and Serbs don't like each other so naturally the fans fought. I assume they used chairs so they wouldn't have to touch one another.
Check out the chick that gets taken out 10seconds in. She is later helped by some pretty Australian gals.

Damn Yankees

I'm a die hard Yankee fan thru and thru, just ask the three red sox fans that I have left battered and bloodied over the past few years, but dammit I think they have gone too far.
for the month of December they have signed:
C.C. Sabathia - $161mil/7 years
A.J. Burnett - $82.5mil/5 years
and now
Mark Teixeira - $180mil/8 years
I'm not a genius but I believe that is $423.5 million spent in one month. Yes they have a new stadium that is opening this season, and yes they need to attract fans to fill those expensive seats, but dude!
George Steinbrenner officially created a monster that we now know will live on long after he dies.
Tonight I will drink to you my Yanks, but if you guys don't win this year or next I'm not sure I will be able to defend you for much longer.

College Football right now

If you have nothing to do right now (3:30pm), turn on your TV to CBS to watch what is considered the most anticipated college football game this season. Georgia (6) vs. Florida (8).
Georgia is visiting the swamps for the 16th time in the last 18 years which seems a lil unfair to me, but what do I know.
Well I do know that college football is modern America's pastime. Sucks for baseball, sucks even more for that non-American presidential candidate.
* In hindsight this post sucked.

wall street x sports
i can't get down with the tampa bay rays. they're young and cool and whatnot and dude's name is almost eva longoria and that's good for a chuckle. but-and feel free to call me cynical if you like- i don't want a cinderella story. because that glow that they're basking in might just be nuclear radiation. sports is owned by wall street. (what ever happend to wall street sports?)and now that wall street is tanking, it's only a matter of time...
even now, on the cusp of an acheivement that surpasses the Celtics, Rays owner and former Bear Stearns analyst andrew friedman is already looking forward to next year's dissolution of the once bedeviled rays. says friedman, in these tough times, the fans should not have unrealistic expecatations for next season given that the rays are having a tough enough time holding down the $40 million dollar payroll. unrealistic expecations? you just stood at the helm of the greatest single season turnaround in mlb history. i think you can cool out and just enjoy this one shining thing in your life for a second. once an analyst, always an analyst i guess. whatever that means.
honestly though- and as i write this, bryant gumble is ironically spouting out a little monologue likening sports to the dot-com bubble and the housing market- i wonder how sports will be impacted by all of this. a petty inquiry perhaps, but the fact of the matter is that sports has always managed to keep its head above the fray, outside of the problems of the real world. that's why we love it and why it becomes the subject of great scorn and intrigue when our sports figures step outside the lines and live actual, flawed lives. manny ramirez is about to catch $100-something mill over the next 6 years and the Dow Jones just dropped to its lowest level in the last six. it's only a matter of time before those ticket licensing fees at the new yankee stadium will mean the difference between a new car or a used car, or your kid getting braces.
oh, and the winner of game 1 (the phillies) goes on to win the series 67% of the time. Congrats rays.
